Does Lemon and Water help you lose weight?

Lately, there is a lot of focus on pill free ways to lose weight due to the unknown side effects of diet pills. Most people who experienced weight loss using diet pills gain it after stopping them. Hence, it is better to look for alternative yet healthy ways to lose weight and keep them of the bay. Lemon is one of the underestimated fruit when it comes to weight loss. The ingredients in lemon can help you lose weight and cleanse the body in general.

Vitamin C

Lemon is full of Vitamin C which helps absorbing calcium and stores it in the fat cells of the body which in turn helps the body burn more fat. Vitamin C also boosts your immune system and helps in fighting common colds.

Pectin Fibre

The pectin fibre in lemon peel helps with weight loss by fighting sugar cravings and makes the body absorb less sugar.. Lemon also produces a bile acid which helps in excreting toxins.

Alkaline

Though lemon contains citric acid it become alkaline once metabolized. Lemon helps in maintaining the pH of the body. Research suggests that people lose weight with more alkaline diet than acidic diet.

Lemon juice drink must be supplemented by drinking plenty of water as the diuretic properties of lemon will help in excreting the toxins through urination. Lemon in addition can increase the antibodies and WBC’s in the body and boosts its immune system. If the taste of lemon water is hard to consume add a bit of honey to improve the taste.

Adding lemon juice to marinate the food can reduce the glycaemic index of the food slightly and makes you fuller for longer thus reducing your food consumption.

Lemon Water Diet Recipe

  • 8(1 glass-8 Oz) glasses of water
  • Juice of 1 lemon

There are many variations of this diet, but this is the simple yet effective recipe for weight loss using lemon.  There are many people who had been on this water for more than a week, but I would suggest you don’t go longer than 3 days for the first time. If you notice any improvement in your metabolism and overall wellbeing of the body then you can go for up to 5 days.

If your intention  is not to lose weight but to cleanse your body then I would suggest you eat a normal balanced meal meaning whole grain foods and a good dose of veggies and fruits and just drink the lemon water throughout the day, This will help you eliminate the toxins from the body.
